Sherpa Software Tackles Email Retention And Management Challenges With Latest Release Of Mail Attender®

Product Updated to Give Administrators Control of PST Data on Desktops and Email in Exchange 2010 Personal Archive Folders

Pittsburgh, PA – March 1, 2011 –Sherpa Software, a leading provider of e-discovery and information management solutions, today announced the availability of Sherpa Software Mail Attender version 4.7 for Microsoft® Exchange environments. This new release of Sherpa’s award-winning email content management software significantly improves management capabilities for Exchange 2010 desktop PST files, allowing administrators to automatically scan PST files located on user desktops to determine the owner of the PST data and report on it. Moreover, Mail Attender has greatly enhanced support for Exchange 2010 Personal Archive folders. Previously, Mail Attender allowed administrators to add information to the archive from mailboxes and PST files; now, administrators have full control over messages in the Personal Archive. They can copy, move, delete, import, or report on messages in this mail folder based on administrator-defined criteria.

The business problem addressed by Mail Attender’s enhanced desktop PST support is email users’ tendency to back up email archives on their local drives, rather than the network. Other email management offerings allow administrators to search networks for PST files, but the administrator has no control or visibility over PST data on desktops, which not only presents the danger of losing email, but also introduces legal, regulatory and corporate email compliance challenges. Mail Attender 4.7 allows administrators to scan desktop PST files and automatically log them, including specifying the owner of the PST data, the file size, the date the file was created, and the date it was last modified or updated.

Another significant enhancement that Mail Attender offers is full support for Exchange 2010 Personal Archive folders. Administrators now can copy, move, delete, import or report on messages in Personal Archive folders based on Mail Attender’s wide variety of criteria. Mail Attender’s reporting capabilities are also extended to the Personal Archive – functionality that is included in the free trial download version available online. Organizations using Exchange 2010 benefit because administrators are currently unable to set a policy allowing users to keep email for a defined period of time and then delete it in accordance with the organization’s retention policies. Mail Attender addresses this challenge by allowing administrators to retain the information that is needed and reduce storage costs by deleting messages they don’t need.
