Many times, our customers want to store their archived data on a storage device that is not running a Domino server and are never quite sure what to do in regards to letting the users access the data.  When data is archived, we leave behind a doclink for the users to click to access their archives. Domino has made this very easy to accomplish.  This is where a Notes Directory Link (DirLink) comes in.  You will need to create this within the Administration client.   To do so, follow the steps below.

1.  Open the Lotus Notes Administration client.

2.  Go to the 'Files' tab and select the Domino\data directory.

4.  Choose 'New Link...'
Link Name = Name of the folder that you want to see when click on File \ Open  \ Lotus Notes Application

5.  Click OK.
NOTE:  You must ensure that the ID that the Domino Server is running under has rights to this storage location.

6.  To view your data, Open an application, switch to your server and click the 'folder' "Archives"

The beauty of this feature is the user still has access and you can store you data on some cheap storage medium.
