Another reason to like 8.5 - New Discussion Database Template

As I continue to test out Domino 8.5, I started looking at some of the default features of 8.5.  We use a lot of Discussion databases at Sherpa.  So here is what a current discussion database looks like on our Domino 8.0.2 Server.  Honestly, not real exciting. It's functional and if you really need it, it's there.

Now here is the same data in a database that is using the out of the box Domino Discussion from a Domino 8.5 server.

Nice work.  Little things like this are what are showing the power of Domino and all the thing it can do.

It's a pity it's only the web side of the template is fixed up. When will we be able to do this from the Notes Client?

Wayne, Interesting point but I think the idea is that with the web interfaced enhanced, you can get to it from anywhere without the Notes client.

While I do agree the apps in Notes could definitely use some updates I'm just happy to see the web interfaces getting a makeover.

Hi Denny,

The web improvements are fantastic and, actually, overdue. They showcase what a Domino application can look like, which is what the standard templates ought to do.

Those who live in their Blackberries want a good web interface. That makes sense. However, "web-enabled" does not equal "access from anywhere".

Many companies will have discussion databases installed on servers without the HTTP task running and, therefore, will only be accessible from a Notes client. Also, servers that do have HTTP running may be behind a firewall, thus accessible only locally (or through VPN.)

The XPage-based changes to the discussion database are awesome and inspiring. Now let's see that awesomeness for the Notes client and for the other standard templates.
