Notes on the iPhone!!

It was a typical Wednesday morning. I had been at work for a couple of hours, caught up on my emails from the previous night and working on some of the things I like to get done before the rest of the office gets in. My sametime chat client popped up and the note said "What's shaking this morning?". It was from Denny Russell, our Notes administrator (among many of his other roles here). His next words were pure music to my ears - "want to give the iphone a try?".

Now admittedly, we've made several unsuccessful attempts in the past at getting Notes email on my iPhone. Although I have been using the iNotes web app to access my mail for about the past year, I would hardly call that scenario ideal. But with the recent release of Domino 8.5.1, I was hopeful this might be nirvana!!

Denny had promised to have this configured in our environment before the end of the week. He forwarded me the instructions to configure the native email application on my iPhone to synchronize with our our installation of Notes Traveler. And in less than 5 minutes, voila, Notes email on my iPhone! Honestly, it couldn't have been easier. Apparently the setup on the server side was as well.

My early impressions - it has been seamless. The only limitation has been the inability to view meeting invitations; I haven't yet had a chance to research it, but that aside I have no complaints. And thankfully, I no longer have to entertain the very rare but occasional thought of carrying around a blackberry like most of my co-workers! Phew!!!

Thank you Denny and finally, thank you IBM.
