PST Attender For Desktops
Pittsburgh, PA, March 3, 2003 – Sherpa Software, creators of Mail Attender® for Exchange and .PST Attender® have introduced another product into their Attender® Utilities line that provides centralized management over .pst files, otherwise known as personal storage folders, located on desktop computers. PST Attender® for Desktops is the next component to the complete management of Exchange/Outlook.
Many organizations have problems managing .pst files and .pst file content. When these files are stored on individual desktops rather than file servers, the task becomes even more difficult. PST Attender for Desktops’ easy-to-use web-based console serves as the user interface to monitor and manage the activities of processing engines that are installed on users PC’s. PST Attender for Desktops, like PST Attender (Server), uses a flexible rule model to manage .pst files and implement corporate policies. The processing engines, which run as a background application independent of user interaction, process the rules and return the results to the web-based console.
PST Attender for Desktops primary purpose is to provide administrators with the necessary means to reach all email files for their corporate policy practices. One of the most common policies implemented by organizations is for age retention. With the enforcement of document and attachment deletion, PST Attender for Desktops can recover storage space on users’ PC’s and reduces the need for additional storage devices. It can reclaim space by: compressing attachments and by exporting attachments from the .pst files to an external file or another hard drive.
In addition to the reduction on hardware costs, PST Attender for Desktops reduces the time and costs associated with search and discovery. When an organization is subpoenaed to produce documentation, finding and retrieving this information can be very costly since all corporate email, regardless of relevance, is subject to discovery in court. The decentralized nature of .pst files makes this process time consuming and disruptive. PST Attender for Desktops gives organizations the ability to scan documents by sender address, keywords or phrases, attachment types and names to make it easier to locate content within .pst files. PST Attender for Desktops also reduces legal liability by deleting extraneous and potentially damaging mail messages once they are located.
